The Music of Haiti: Whitney Dow Film Tells the Extraordinary Story of Haiti’s Oldest and Most Treasured Band

This month, Creatively Speaking, a curated film series that highlights independent film by and/or about people of color, paid homage to the myth and majesty of Haiti. The series featured “When the Drum is Beating,” a a feature-length documentary directed by Whitney Dow, one of our film-making collaborators.

Years in the making, Whitney’s film is about Haiti’s most popular band – The Septentrional. The documentary beautifully interweaves the extraordinary story the 20–piece band’s six decades of creativity with the history of Haiti itself.
